The Tony Clifton Circus was founded in 2001. Their aim is to be a shining neon sign, bordered by flashing colored lightbulbs, that anounces the presence of something unexpected.
The conception and idea of the Tony Clifton Circus was unleashed with the meeting of Anthony Jerome Clifton, an artist more or less unknown, italo- american, whose being can be summed up in three words, "life is strange".
The formation of this "circus of anomaly" is the responsability of Nicola Danesi de Luca and Iacopo Fulgi, two strikingly different clowns.
Nicola is the brain, the thinker. He attempts to be rational, political, conscious, loves the spoken word, the sounds and the meanings of words, and on stage he would like to sing...
Iacopo is physical, a victim of his impulses, willingly unconscious due to his lack of belief in reason. He dances, sweats, and on stage, he would like to vomit.
To convey their true vision and the direction of their research pertaining to the work of Tony Clifton Circus is not easy. What they attempt to bring to the stage is the eccentric, and the anomaly. They love to make people laugh but even more, to make the spectator choke on his own laughter. The Tony Clifton Circus wants to be recognized, appreciated, but for them the best way is not to cuddle or submit to the desires of the public, but to present the spectators something perhaps more embarassing than amusing.
Based on the precedent intro, the Tony Clifton shows aquire their true form with a mix between madness and subtle elegance. They experiment with extreme comedy, or even better, comic extremism.
At the base of it all is the underlying, irrational pleasure to present this to the public eye. Like children, they play, revelling in the possibility to do what they feel like without questioning the meaning or purpose. For them, this has the maximum importance, and to watch them in their delirium is not at all reassuring.
Tony Clifton Circus loves unconditionally Leo Bassi. They copy him, and above all, hope to become as rich as him. If you don't know who Leo Bassi is, that's your problem.
If you have an idea to change the world, it's the world's problem.
With love and a bit of hate,
